Panchi Forteza is 17 years old and lives in Montevideo, Uruguay. He is full of life and loves computers and spending time with his friends.
Panchi is also very ill. Ever since he was a baby, he has suffered from thoracic rotatory scoliosis combined with heart problems, for which he has already had several operations. However, his situation has deteriorated in the past year and the scoliosis is now pressing dangerously against one of his lungs. He urgently needs an operation to save his life.
His one hope is an operation in Spain, during which a team of heart, lung and orthopedic surgeons will try to straighten his spine. In principle, he will have to undergo a series of three operations and rehabilitation over four months.
The approximate cost of the various procedures is 77,000 euros. This includes the cost of Panchi’s hospitalization, operations, medical fees, medication and rehabilitation…besides Panchi and his parents’ flights to Madrid or their expenses while they are there.
Panchi’s parents and family do not have enough money to pay for the operations. Even though his parents both have good jobs (his mother is a high-school teacher and his father a civil servant), between them they earn the equivalent of approximately 800 euros a month.
Panchi’s operation cannot wait any longer. His doctors have advised operating in September and we are therefore trying to raise money to help him. Any help, however small, will be welcome.
